Frequently Asked Questions

Usage

  • Your usage allowance for the month varies depending on the plan you have selected. Please refer to the Unwired plan page for details on the usage allowance provided with each plan. You can also confirm what plan you are on by visiting the My Account section of the web site.

  • When you use the Internet, you send and receive information. So when you send an email, you are uploading to the Internet and when you receive an email, you are downloading from the Internet. Normally, people receive more information than they send - think of all the web pages you look at! So basically, uploads are what you send up to the Internet and downloads are what you receive from the Internet back to your computer.

  • You can change plans once per month, however you do not need to wait until your next billing date for this change to take effect. If you have not changed plans during your current billing month you can change to a plan with higher usage allowance and regain the speeds allocated for that plan. Changes should take place within an hour, this could be longer in busier periods.

  • You can check your usage for the current month and also for previous months on the Unwired website under the 'My Account' page. Your usage is calculated over a 1 month period, starting from the date of your last payment (also known as your anniversary date).

  • No, any unused data expires at midnight (Eastern Standard Time) the day before your anniversary billing date and cannot be rolled over.

  • Depending on the plan you are on, Unwired may count just download data only toward your monthly usage allowance or both upload and download. Refer to the plans & pricing section of the web site for more information.

  • Your access speed will be reduced from your plan speed to 32kbps once you have exceeded your month usage allowance. This speed will remain at 32kbps until your next billing date, unless you change to an access plan with a higher usage allowance. This is permitted once per billing month only, however the change will take effect within one hour of the request (this could be longer in busier periods) and your access speed will reflect the chosen plan speed.

You will be charged for the difference between your previous plan and new plan for the remaining days of the billing month and a charge will apply on your next invoice. Your plan will remain at the higher plan for the next billing month.

  • You can shift to a plan with a higher usage amount at any stage during your billing month, limited to once per month. Changes should take place within an hour, not at your next billing date. When your change plan takes effect your total monthly usage allowance will also change to that of the higher plan. As you will have changed plans mid month you will also see two additional items on the invoice for your access charges. This is because the two plans selected during the month have different access charges. You will be charged separate access charges for the days you were on each of the plans during your billing month, as the plans have different access fees. This results in a credit for days from the plan change, prorated at the original plan fee, and a debit for the number of days from the plan change, prorated for the new plan fee. If you have changed plans during the month, your monthly plan fee in advance will relate to the access charge for the last plan you changed to.

  • Your usage may have exceeded your monthly usage allowance for your selected plan. If this is the case and you have not yet changed to a higher usage plan, you will have been throttled to 32kbps. Your connection will remain at this speed until your next billing date when your monthly usage will be reset. If you wish to return to broadband speeds prior to your next billing date and have not yet changed plans this billing month, you can change plans to a higher usage plan This change will take affect within 1 hour in most instances, although it may take slightly longer during busier periods.
